Laurie's Approach to Therapy

Central to Laurie's approach is the recognition of the potency inherent in nonjudgmental, collaborative, and strengths-based relationships with her clients. She holds in high regard the courage it takes to begin, establishing a secure environment through the judicious use of humour, respectful curiosity, and warmly engaging energy, and she respects the nuanced pacing and timing required in therapeutic change. Adaptable and flexible, Laurie draws from a spectrum of theories — including ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), and IFS (Internal Family Systems Therapy) — weaving these with a comprehensive understanding of each client's lived experiences, personality, and core issues.

Laurie's Specialties

Laurie is a Registered Social Worker with three decades of experience across diverse therapeutic settings. She values the wealth of collective knowledge she has acquired, aiding individuals, couples, and families in navigating life's myriad challenges to cultivate rich and fulfilling lives, and is well-versed in working with individuals of all ages, extending her services to couples and family therapy as well.

A Note From Laurie

I have learned that timing matters in therapy. Sometimes change begins with a practical strategy, sometimes with a new perspective, and sometimes with finally feeling safe enough to say the thing out loud.

Common Questions

You do not need to be in crisis. Many people come in feeling stuck or sensing something is off, even when life looks fine from the outside. Curiosity is enough to start.
Mostly a conversation. A chance to share what brought you in, what you are hoping for, and what kind of support would feel most helpful. No pressure to have it figured out before you arrive.
Both offer the same quality of care. Virtual therapy can be easier for flexibility, while in-person therapy may feel better if you prefer being in the room together.
It depends on what you are working through. Some people benefit from a few focused sessions. Others prefer longer-term support. There is no fixed timeline. It is shaped around your goals.
Completely normal. A free consultation is available if you'd like to ask a few questions first, but it is optional. You are also welcome to take more time before booking an appointment.
Select insurance plans may be accepted. Ask at booking to confirm whether your plan is covered for therapy appointments.
