Shannon's Approach to Therapy

Shannon's approach to therapy is informed by her training in Mindfulness-Centred Psychotherapy, Attachment Theory, and a trauma-informed, neuroscience-based understanding of healing. She operates from the belief that we are all inherently good, yet it is common to experience periods of feeling emotionally overwhelmed, rigid in our thoughts, and acting in ways that go against the life we hope to create. Counselling with Shannon is an opportunity to engage in a self-study, bringing mindful attention to the parts of us that get in the way; her trauma-informed training supports moving beyond reliving and surviving the past toward creating a different experience in the present. Shannon is LGBTQ-inclusive and affirming in her therapy approaches.

Shannon's Specialties

Since 2008, Shannon has been dedicated to the field of social work, helping individuals navigate healing and personal growth. She believes deeply in the human capacity to grow, change, and cultivate a more fulfilling life, and her therapeutic approach reflects this philosophy. Informed by Level 1 Hakomi training, somatic and mindfulness-centred psychotherapy, developmental psychology, and attachment-based principles, Shannon provides a compassionate path toward self-discovery. With a strong understanding of the effects of interpersonal violence and trauma, she creates a safe, supportive space where clients can explore their experiences and move forward with resilience. In addition to her therapeutic work, Shannon specializes in deathcare, offering sensitive and meaningful support to individuals and families experiencing grief, loss, and end-of-life transitions.

A Note From Shannon

I often think of therapy as learning to notice what is happening inside with more kindness and precision. When we understand our protective patterns, we can begin to relate to them differently.

Common Questions

You do not need to be in crisis. Many people come in feeling stuck or sensing something is off, even when life looks fine from the outside. Curiosity is enough to start.
Mostly a conversation. A chance to share what brought you in, what you are hoping for, and what kind of support would feel most helpful. No pressure to have it figured out before you arrive.
Both offer the same quality of care. Virtual therapy can be easier for flexibility, while in-person therapy may feel better if you prefer being in the room together.
It depends on what you are working through. Some people benefit from a few focused sessions. Others prefer longer-term support. There is no fixed timeline. It is shaped around your goals.
Completely normal. A free consultation is available if you'd like to ask a few questions first, but it is optional. You are also welcome to take more time before booking an appointment.
Select insurance plans may be accepted. Ask at booking to confirm whether your plan is covered for therapy appointments.
