Is this assessment for you?
Parents often reach out after months of notes home and hard evenings. You might be noticing some of these:
- Teachers mention trouble focusing, sitting still or finishing work
- Homework takes far longer than it should, often with tears or arguments
- Your child acts before thinking, interrupts or struggles to wait their turn
- They lose things, forget instructions or seem not to hear you
- Report cards say capable, but not working to potential
- Frustration and big feelings come on quickly
- Impulsive moments make friendships hard to keep
- The school has suggested an assessment
Every child has some of these days. An assessment looks at how often, how much and in which settings, and at other explanations like anxiety, learning differences or sleep.
What your report can help with
School supports
Recommendations for your child’s Individualized Program Plan and classroom accommodations.
Your child’s healthcare providers
Diagnostic findings and recommendations that can help inform discussions with your child’s pediatrician or family doctor.
Life at home
Practical strategies for routines, homework and the hard moments.
Your child
A kind, age-appropriate way to help your child understand how their brain works.
An assessment can be an important first step, but support doesn’t have to end with the report. Depending on your findings and recommendations, our team can help you explore counselling, therapeutic groups, or other appropriate supports at Your Counselling. Any additional services are optional and arranged separately.
How it works

Common questions
What ages do you assess?
Children and teens from age 6 to 17. With teens, we involve them more directly in the interview and the feedback.
What should I tell my child?
Keep it simple and positive, for example: you will do some puzzles and activities so we can learn how your brain likes to learn. There is nothing to study for and no way to fail.
Do both parents need to consent?
If parents share decision-making, both need to consent. If you have sole decision-making, please bring the court document to the intake.
Will you talk to my child’s school?
Only with your written consent. Teachers usually complete a questionnaire, and we can share recommendations with the school if you would like us to.
Can you prescribe medication?
Psychologists do not prescribe medication. With your consent, your report gives your family doctor or psychiatrist the findings and recommendations that can help inform a conversation about treatment options, including medication.
What if it is not ADHD?
You still leave with answers. Your report explains what is contributing to your child’s difficulties and what will help.
Can a doctor, therapist or school refer me?
Yes. Professionals can refer through our referral form, or you can reach out yourself. With your consent, we can share your report and recommendations with the person who referred you, so everyone supporting you is working from the same picture.
Is it covered by insurance?
Some extended health insurance plans provide coverage for psychological assessments. Coverage varies depending on the insurer, the type of assessment, and the provider’s registration. We recommend confirming your assessment coverage and any benefit limits before booking. We provide detailed receipts for your claim.
